ANIMATION & INTERACTION DESIGN

case study In-Slot Experience Enhancement Overview This project focused on refining the in-slot gameplay experience by improving interaction feedback, responsiveness, and visual clarity. The objective was to create a more engaging and satisfying gameplay loop where every player action feels clear, immediate, and rewarding. The Challenge The in-slot experience highlighted opportunities to improve responsiveness and interaction feedback. Core gameplay actions, such as spinning, did not always provide strong visual or tactile reinforcement, which reduced the overall sense of engagement. Players rely heavily on feedback during gameplay to understand outcomes and feel rewarded. When that feedback is limited or unclear, the experience can feel less dynamic and less immersive. Additionally, some interaction elements lacked consistency, which affected the overall cohesion of the gameplay experience. In-Slot View Landscape (New vs. Old) In-Slot View Portrait (New vs. Old) The Solution The experience was refined by enhancing UI clarity and improving interaction feedback across key gameplay elements. Particular focus was placed on the spin button, as it represents the primary interaction point for players. Visual and motion feedback were improved to ensure that player actions were clearly communicated and felt responsive. Adjustments to timing, animation, and visual cues helped create a stronger connection between player input and system response. Concept exploration was also used to evaluate different interaction approaches and ensure the final design delivered the best possible player experience. Players received clearer feedback, which enhanced both understanding and satisfaction during gameplay. These improvements contributed to a more polished and immersive experience, aligning gameplay quality with player expectations. Closing Insight In gameplay design, responsiveness and feedback are essential. Strong interaction design ensures that every action feels meaningful, reinforcing player engagement and enjoyment.

LOBBY & IN-SLOT EXPERIENCE

case study Lobby Experience Optimization Overview This project focused on refining the lobby experience to improve navigation, clarity, and overall usability. As the central hub of the game, the lobby plays a critical role in how players discover content and transition into gameplay. The goal was to create a more intuitive and structured experience that reduces friction and supports smoother player interaction. The Challenge The lobby experience presented opportunities for improvement in terms of clarity, organization, and navigation flow. While functional, the layout did not fully guide player behavior or prioritize content effectively. Players were required to process multiple elements at once, which increased cognitive load and made navigation less efficient than it could be. Key actions and pathways were not always immediately clear, which impacted the overall ease of use. Additionally, the experience lacked a strong sense of flow, making transitions between browsing and gameplay feel less seamless. Previous Lobby View The Solution The lobby was refined with a focus on improving structure, hierarchy, and usability. Content was reorganized to better guide player attention and make navigation more intuitive. Visual hierarchy was strengthened to clearly distinguish primary actions from secondary elements, allowing players to quickly understand where to focus. Spacing and layout adjustments reduced clutter and improved readability across the interface. Navigation flow was also improved to create a smoother transition from browsing to gameplay, ensuring that players could move through the experience with minimal friction. Updated Lobby and High-Limit Room Impact The refined lobby experience improved usability and reduced friction in game discovery. Players were able to navigate more efficiently, locate content more easily, and transition into gameplay with greater confidence. These improvements contributed to a smoother and more engaging entry point into the overall player experience. Closing Insight The lobby sets the tone for the entire player journey. Even incremental improvements in structure and clarity can have a meaningful impact on how players engage with the game.

ISLAND HOP FEATURE OPTIMIZATION

case study Island Hop Feature Optimization Overview Island Hop was redesigned to improve player engagement by simplifying the experience, strengthening progression, and expanding its connection to the broader game economy. The redesign focused on reducing friction while creating a more rewarding gameplay loop that players wanted to return to every day. Business Opportunity Although Island Hop generated strong engagement among highly active players, participation across the broader player base was limited by onboarding friction, outdated rewards, and an unclear progression experience. Improving accessibility presented an opportunity to significantly increase feature adoption and long term engagement. Final Version V1 Previous Version The Solution Redesigned the feature flow, progression system, rewards, and user experience to create a smoother and more engaging gameplay loop. Expanded rewards beyond coins, introduced clearer progression milestones, reduced friction throughout the experience, and created stronger incentives for players to return each day. V1 vs V2 comparison This comparison highlights the improvements in clarity, flow, and player guidance between the two versions. https://chrisfullerdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Island_Hop_Final.mp4 Impact The updated feature significantly improved usability and player understanding. Players were better able to engage with the system, resulting in a more enjoyable and effective experience. Closing Insight This project demonstrates how thoughtful iteration and clarity in design can transform an underperforming feature into a strong player engagement tool.

DAILY REWARDS SYSTEM EVOLUTION

case study Daily Rewards System Evolution Overview The Daily Rewards system was redesigned to evolve a simple daily login bonus into a meaningful progression experience. By replacing the legacy reward wheel with a structured 28 day calendar, players gained clearer goals, more valuable rewards, and stronger motivation to return consistently. Business Opportunity The existing Daily Bonus wheel provided limited progression and little incentive for players to build a daily habit. Because Gold Fish has one of the largest populations of sporadic players in the SciPlay portfolio, improving daily engagement represented a significant opportunity to increase retention and long term player value. Original Version Final Versions The Solution Designed and led the transition from a simple reward wheel to a modern progression calendar featuring milestone rewards, multiple currencies, escalating incentives, and clearer long term goals that encourage players to return every day. Experience in Motion 7-day Coin Only FTUE This version focused on simplicity and clarity, helping players quickly understand how daily rewards function. https://chrisfullerdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/7_Day_Coin_Only_FTUE.mp4 28-day Multi-Currency FTUE This expanded version introduced deeper progression and multiple reward types, increasing long-term engagement and perceived value. https://chrisfullerdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/28_Day_MultiCurrency_FTUE.mp4 Impact The redesigned system improved player understanding and created a stronger sense of progression and reward anticipation. Players were more likely to return daily, and the system became a meaningful part of the overall player experience. Closing Insight This project reinforced the importance of clarity, onboarding, and progression design in building systems that drive long-term engagement.
